Trademarks, Patents & Copyrights

Trademarks

Trademarks are unique indicators used by individuals, business entities or any other legal organizations to identify the origin of some product or service. A Trademark is a design, word, phrase, image, symbol or a combination that identifies and distinguishes the source of the product or service from all others. Trademarks are useful in the sense that the trademark owner will obtain the right to the ownership and prevent others from using a similar mark without permission. For more details on trademarks, please visit the website of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (www.ipos.gov.sg).

Patents

A patent is a set of privileged rights granted by the government to the owner of an invention or applicant for a limited period of time. This is to stop others from copying, using and making the inventions without the patent owner’s consent in that country. For requirements for a national patent application, please visit the website of the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (www.ipos.gov.sg).
